Fall Classic Game 7 Captures 51M Viewers Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extended matchup that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a aggregate 51 million spectators in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 edition showdown between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It additionally stands as the top-rated World Series matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, Game 4 ranked seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in 13th position.

International Viewership Figures

In the Canadian market, the climactic game drew 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language program in Canada after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – drew 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-match World Series averaged 15.71 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete US average was 16.1 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase over the previous year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different tongues.
